What is Measure SMS?

Measure SMS is a local parcel tax renewal that will appear on the November 2026 ballot to renew the stable, locally controlled funding that has helped make San Marino Unified School District one of the highest-performing school districts in California.

For more than three decades, voter-approved parcel tax funding has supported the exceptional educational opportunities that San Marino families expect, helping students earn state-level recognition in mathematics, writing, music, debate, and other academic programs. That locally approved funding is now set to expire unless renewed by voters through Measure SMS.

Measure SMS will

  • Retain and attract high-quality teachers and staff

  • Support advanced programs in math, science, engineering, and technology

  • Support mental and behavioral health programs

  • Protect hands-on learning programs

  • Maintain honors and advanced placement courses

  • Prepare students to be competitive in college and career

Fiscal Accountability

  • Every dollar stays local and supports only San Marino students

  • No funds can be taken by the State or other districts

  • Public disclosure of all spending ensures funds are used as promised

  • Senior citizens age 65+ remain exempt and do not need to reapply

By combining two measures into one, Measure SMS will also save our school district hundreds of thousands of dollars charged by the County to administer separate elections – money that can instead go directly to the classroom.
